Can you please provide the explaination of the answer for the questions mentioned below:

1. A controversial figure throughout most of his public life, the Black leader Marcus Garvey advocated that some Blacks return to Africa, the land that, to him, symbolized the possibility of freedom.
(A) that some Blacks return to Africa, the land that, to him, symbolized the possibility of freedom

let me give a try... u guys can correct me if I am wrong

IMO A

Advocated - subjunctive mood.. so we need that. D & E are eliminated.

C - awkward and doesn't have comma before which
B - I believe land is redundant. Instead of African land, we could just say Africa

IMO B

A - X, ed form.... so here believed modifies 36 feet (closest noun) which makes no sense
C usage of have been - (present progressive ) - wrong tense as the reptile has already died.
D which modifies 36 feet
E) same as D


3. A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn were published, reveals that Twain provided financial assistance to one of the first Black students at Yale Law School.

IMO B

A - subject-verb agreement - Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - singular so singular vern was is required
C - same year that - wrong idiom
D - that refers to Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
E - It should be 'same year as the publication of'

2. Which modifies "36 feet" in the options D and E. It means that 36 feetis the largest flying ... So, D and E are out.

3. That in the option B is NOT correct because "that" can be used as relative pronoun and can be used as restrictive modifier. None of these uses has been in option B. B is out.

Answer is C
