Fall 2009 Round3 Vs. Spring 2010

by psyborg » Tue Jan 27, 2009 1:36 pm
Hello,

I have taken the GMAT but have scored low on my first attempt.
I plan on re-taking the GMAT next month and applying for the final or Round 3 deadline. I understand that a high Gmat score is required and it is pretty difficult to get an admit in this round. I wanted to consider the option of applying for the spring 2010 program.

Could someone please tell me what the drawbacks are of starting your mba program in spring rather than fall
Do most good B-schools have the option of applying for the Jan intake
How is it different as compared to Fall?

I wanted to get a clear picture from the experts to weigh out the possibilites.
Would applying for R3 spring be better than applying in Jan 2010?

Thanks for all help team
Regards

Dear psyborg,

There are not many schools that offer spring entry into the full-time/day program. The more common entry point is fall and some schools only offer fall entry. For many schools that do offer spring entry, it is for candidates that already have a business degree. These folks then take a condensed core curriculum through the first spring and summer, forgoing an internship. You might find a handful of schools with spring entry that do not forgo the summer internship, but I think those will be the exception. If you do have a school in mind with spring entry, then it might be a better option for you to apply in the early rounds for that entry point than the last round for fall entry. In essence, you want to submit the best application possible, so rushing to hit the final deadline this spring is something you should think about when judging your profile versus the school's class profile.

Good luck,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for your response.
I too could not find an option for spring entry to the colleges I plan on applying. This actually makes my way pretty clear. I have already started my essays and other application procedures and I am sure I will do well in my GMAT this time. I think I will go ahead and apply for the R3 deadline and take this up as a challenge.

Speak to you soon !
