10) Tom reads at an average rate of 30 pages per hour, while Jan reads at an average rate of 40 pages per hour. If Tom starts reading a novel at 4:30, and Jan begins reading an identical copy of the same book at 5:20, at what time will they be reading the same page?

1) 9:30
2) 9:00
3) 8:40
4) 7:50
5) 7:00

Can anyone help pls? Correct answer will follow. :)

For every hour, Jan reads 10 more pages (40 - 30)

by the time Jan starts the book at 5:20, Tom has already read 25 pages.

So jan will takes 25/10 = 2.5 hours before both are on the same page.

So 5:20 + 2.5 hrs = 7:50
