What is the average (arithmetic mean) of 2 x and 6 y?

[1] x + y = 18.

[2] x + 3 y = 32.

Average of 2x and 6y = (2x + 6y)/2 = x + 3y

(1) x + y = 18 implies y = 18 - x
So, average of 2x and 6y = x + 3(18 - x), which is an expression in x and we have no info about x.
So, (1) is NOT SUFFICIENT.

(2) x + 3y = 32 implies that average of 2x and 6y = 32
So, (2) is SUFFICIENT.
