Rate of improvement

by jordanro » Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:01 am
I must admit I nearly fell asleep on the first Pwrprep test and managed a 480.

Goal is really 650 + .

Should I take the 2nd one tomorrow once I am more awake to see where I really stand?

Also ho wmuch improvement is seen over the preparation period of say 4 weeks (30+ hrs study per week)

thanks

If you really don't think the test was representative, then you might want to try another one to get a better idea of where you're at and what your weaknesses are.

As for the amount of improvement, it really depends. I've had students improve 200 points in a month and others not improve at all. It all depends on your background, the effectiveness of your studying, your natural aptitutude for the GMAT, luck on test day, and many other factors.

Good luck!

Thanks for the prompt reply

I think I 'll do another one tomorrow

I usually dont rush and ended up with 20 min left on the Quant

In reviewing my answers, I made 6 error from simply rushing...a huge swing in the scoring I would guess.

Yup - as I tell my students:

Unless you're scoring 99th percentile, having too much time left is just as bad as running out of time (if not worse). That's why it's so important to take practice exams - getting your pacing down is almost as important as studying your quant and verbal.
