Beat the GMAT 60 Day - Day 5

by tushnir540 » Mon Mar 19, 2012 9:43 am
Hi,

I have a few quick questions. I signed up for the Beat the GMAT e-mails about 1-2 years ago. Things came up and I wasn't able to keep up with it. I restarted studying a few days ago, and am staying on track with the corresponding days from the prior e-mails.

To see if anything was updated from a year ago, I re-signed up to receive the e-mails again. I noticed that now the Kaplan Book has been replaced by the Manhattan GMAT books. What was the reason for this change? Are the Manhattan GMAT (MGMAT) books better? I have access to both books, so a financial burden isn't an issue. Since I have only done through Day 6, I am more then happy to make the switch and quickly review the MGMAT for the sections I've already covered, and continue with the MGMAT books going forward.

My second question is with regards to Day 5 of the "updated e-mails" (including MGMAT). Day 5 pertains to Arithmetic and Work. I don't see a section to review the Work in this e-mail. Was it missed or is Work a subsection of Positive and Negatives, PEMDAS, Digits and Decimals, or Fractions??

I have copied the assignments for Day 5 from the current e-mail distribution, and from the prior (dated) distribution below.

------------------------------------
To Do:

In the Official Guide for GMAT Review, 12th Edition:
Review the sections on Fractions, Decimals, and Real Numbers (p. 109-112)

For those using the Manhattan GMAT books for the math section:

In the Number PropertiesStrategy Guide, 4th Edition:
Complete Chapter 3: Positives & Negatives (p. 37-46)

In the Fractions, Decimals, & Percents Strategy Guide, 4th Edition:
Complete Chapter 1: Digits & Decimals (p. 11-24)

-------------------------------------
Prior E-mail

In the Official Guide for GMAT Review, 12th Edition:

Good questions.

The old Study Guide used MGMAT for Verbal and Kaplan for Math. In the new Guide, I just switched the emphasis; now it's MGMAT for Math (or GMAT Prep Now) and Kaplan for Verbal.

About covering the concept of work: With the switch in learning resources, I have moved this concept to the emails that deal with word problems and rates. I thought it was a better fit there.

Cheers,
Brent

Thanks for your reply Brent!

Would you recommend switching to the updated format?

Yes I would. The new format also has several more links to additional (free) resources to supplement your learning.

Cheers,
