Please help

by riteshbindal » Thu Oct 01, 2009 11:09 am
Hi,

I have G Day on 24th October, almost 3 weeks from now.
My last three test scores are:
MGMAT: 740 (Q47 V45)
GPREP1: 710 (Q50 V36)
GPREP2: 720 (Q50 V38)

I am targeting for 750 and finished OG 12 when I started studying for GMAT.
Can someone please help me out in planning strategy.
I observed that in SC, I did 5 wrong, 3 wrong in RC and 3 wrong in CR when I got 720 in GPREP2.

Please help.
Thanks.

It looks like you are in very good shape right now, given your excellent practice test scores.

You need to go one click down to understand within SC, RC, and CR--what specific topics or types of questions trouble you?

Stacey Koprince wrote some awesome articles on how to do this recently. Check it out:

Evaluating Your Practice Tests, Part I
Evaluating Your Practice Tests, Part II

Hope this helps, good luck!

Hi Eric,

I would like to have one more advice. As you can see that I have burned out both my GPREP exams, how should I assess myself in terms of actual GMAT? I still have a couple of MGMAT tests left. I also have GPREP. Is GPREP a good indicator of your actual status?

GMATPrep is definitely the best indicator of your actual GMAT performance because it is the only test that features real but retired GMAT questions. Based on your results with GMATPrep, you appear to be in really great shape off the bat!

Hi Eric

I think I didn't post my question clearly. I meant to say that as I still have 3 weeks in hand, which tests can give me real status? Ok. This is also pretty vague question :)
I am mainly concerned about verbal. As far as I have seen, that MGMAT has tougher RCs and easier SCs as compared to RCs and SCs of real GMAT. Do you know any other test which has a good verbal part?

Thanks,
Ritesh

Oops... I meant I still have Power Prep. Gmat prep, I have already finished off. Is power prep a good indicator of your score?

Hi Ritesh,

Sorry I didn't understand your question. :)

Outside of GMATPrep, I don't think there's a practice test software that predicts your GMAT score as well. I do recommend though to keep taking practice tests because it's important to stay sharp with your CAT skills. Stick with the brand names: Kaplan, The Princeton Review, MGMAT, etc.

With regard to PowerPrep--I've become a bit ambivalent about these tests. The questions are a bit old, so they may not reflect the actual GMAT as well. On the other hand, PowerPrep does feature real GMAT questions. Bottom line, I think that it doesn't hurt to practice from these tests, but try not to read too much into the results.

Hope this helps, good luck!
