san diego gmat tutor or any other advice?

by sungirl » Thu Jan 14, 2010 2:14 pm
Hi,

I need some advice on how to raise my gmat score. I took a vertias class two years ago and then took a year off and then spent a month and a half this year craming for the gmat using old veritas materials along with tutoring from a math major. Needless to say, I bombed the test and got a 570. I need to get at least a 650 on the next test to have a chance to get into the schools I am interested in. I did really well on my SATs (1390) and know I can get my score, but I just need some help. I felt like the practice tests I was taking through veritas were too easy as I was consistently getting >630. Does anyone know of a good tutor in san diego specifically for the gmat? Could anyone reccommend a good class/ reliable tests to take? thank you so much for your help!

Your goal is definitely within reach!! There are probably some simple mistakes you made and, with a little help, getting a 650 shouldn't be too hard for you.

As for tutors in your area, I would recommend starting with CL and seeing what you can find. Remember, you need to interview your potential tutor before you start paying him/her to make SURE they know what they are doing and have a teaching style/approach that works with your learning style. If you are already scoring 570, you have the basics down and just need that extra help to push your score up to where it needs to be. These tutors tend to be a little cheaper than the ones you find at bigger companies but you must do your hw on them.

You could also look into home study or online courses. You are welcome to try ours out for free if you'd like and see if it works for you. You can PM me for more information. Make sure that for these types of programs, you are driven and disciplined enough to sit down and work through the program. I think if you do that, you'll be just fine!

Also, in your situation, make sure the program you choose has a call in option with it so you can ask specific questions, especially as the questions you attempt keep getting harder and harder.

Hope that helps!

Good Luck,

Lee
