Please suggest me some options

by [email protected] » Mon Aug 30, 2010 8:25 am
Hi Everyone,

I got a lot of help from this Forum while studing for GMAT.

I took the GMAT today and it was not upto my expectations

660 (Q 49)(V 31)
Expecting 4-5 in AWA.

I dont know where I went wrong, because I never got below 700 (Q 49/V 37)GMAT Prep , and in MGMAT(Q 49/V 41).
So I am totally frustated. :(

My profile is :-

Work Ex:- 5 Years +
Industry :- Computer Engineering
B.E. :- 85%
12th :- 83%
10th:- 78%

I applied to following 5 schools:-

1. RSM
2. HEC
3. INSEAD
4. ESADE
5. IESE

I dont know if I even stand a chance in any of these colleges now.

Please let me know whether it's of any use to apply to any of these or any other colleges with this score and profile.
I am mainly interested in European B Schools.

Any help would be appreciated!

That wasn't very encouraging though :( , but I believe my score is not good at all.
Should I consider a second attempt ?
I dont want to take the GMAT again , because frankly, I do not know where I went wrong, and I am not sure what to improve. My verbal score wasn't so low anytime in any mock cat.

Experts any opinion/suggestions about applications/ retake??

Hi Bedi,

660 is still a competitive score if you have good extra curriculars and if your essays are brilliant.....My opinion is get hold of current students from these schools and discuss with them. Nothing beats firsthand info.

Few days back,i spoke to a girl with 610 gmat score selected in ISB (3 years IT exp)..........but her extracurriculars were simply amazing.

@ Outreach - What does that mean? Do females get a preferance over males in application process, everything else held constant? Do Indians from other parts of the world get preferance over ones from India, everything else held constant?
Please enlighten :)

Yes, any underrepresented group has an advantage over an overrepresented group given the same factors. There are several reasons, and I believe the two main reasons are that underrepresented group has inherited disadvantages, and that it is beneficial for everyone in the MBA program to have a diversified classroom.

But then, how is it bad for an applicant to be in the pool of male, Indian IT students? Won't schools want diversity in the MBA program.. Assuming Indians will add to the diversity..

That's the point I was trying to make, male Indians in IT profession are in a group that is overrepresented. According to the latest GMAT statistics, the highest number of international GMAT test takers are from India and China, and a large percentage of these applicants have IT backgrounds.

Women regardless of race/ethnic background in MBA applicant pool are underrepresented, thus you have an advantage over male counterparts.

Makes sense. Glad I am not in the overrepresented group then :)
Thanks!
