Advice Reqd: GMAT Retake..

by James_83 » Sat Dec 06, 2008 7:19 am
Hi Stacy,

I have given GMAT test twicely and scored 590 & 610. However, i have a very good academic result, both in schooling and graduation.

I am thinking of giving GMAT again but however, speculate that my previous test scores may impact my application part. Currently, i have a working experience of 3.5 Years with 6 months of International experience.

Please advice.

Thanks.

Dear James_83,

You provided very little information to comment on your chances. I'm not sure what schools you are targeting to know how competitive your GMAT score is in relation to where you want to attend. If you are looking at a top 40 program, then it is probably worth taking the test a third time to try and increase your score. Schools will not view 3 attempts negatively, so it is worth it if you feel you can raise your score at least 30 points.

Remember, schools do not make decisions on GMAT, GPA and the number of years of experience. Decisions are based on a holistic evaluation in terms of quality of experience, your background, and your career goals. It is imperative you present a strong rationale for why you want a MBA, how it fits into your overall career plan, and why the school you are applying to is a good match for you. Likewise, you must distinguish yourself from the competition and demonstrate successful leadership experiences/evidence of leadership potential.

Good luck,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for comments.

I am targeting top 30 schools and looking for courses in general management. I am working in an Telecom based IT MNC ARICENT in India.
Since, there is a significant number of applicants from India, i apprehend that my third attempt may have some negative impact on application part (assuming that i will give my best in 3rd attempt :) )

So, i am worried regarding my apprehension.

Thanks.
