Unlike the use of headset telephones, which allow drivers to keep their hands on the wheel, all drivers are prohibited from using portable phones while driving.
(A) Unlike the use of headset telephones, which allow drivers to keep their hands on the wheel
(B) Besides using headset telephones, which allow drivers to keep their hands on the wheel
(C) Unless headset telephones, which allow drivers to keep their hands on the wheel, are used
(D) Other than the use of headset telephones, which allows drivers to keep their hands on the wheel
(E) Aside from using headset telephones which allow drivers to keep their hands on the wheel

[spoiler]I think both B & C mean same. But OE says B wrongly compares telephones with drivers. OA:C[/spoiler]

Hi,
I don't think B and C mean same.
Besides - In addition to

B - In addition to using headset phones, all drivers are prohibited from using portable phones.
C - Unless headset phones are used, all drivers are prohibited from using portable phones.

besides also means other than... would that not help in B.

Other than using headset telephones, blah blah..

Hi,
Can you post an example with that meaning.
If you mean to say something like: 'I can do nothing besides accepting your argument' then besides means something like except, apart from.
But B has no negative words and it starts with besides. So, I feel it can only mean 'additional info'.

Is it that besides mean except for/apart from only when NEGATIVE words precede it. And in all other cases it means in addition to.

What does besides mean in following sentence.
I've got plenty of other things to do besides talking to you.

If the rule i wrote (for confirmation) is correct then in our sentence besides means in addition to.
B - In addition to using headset phones, all drivers are prohibited from using portable phones.
Now this sentence does not seem to make any sense BUT certainly we are NOT comparing drivers and headset phones as Claimed by KAPLAN.

C was right from the word go.
I think 'besides' doesn't fit in this sentence at all.
