LEADERS of the G8 group of rich countries are set to meet for two days beginning on Wednesday July 8th in L’Aquila, an Italian town devastated by an earthquake earlier this year.

Above sentence is from the Economist website.

Here, it seems that BEGINNING is modifying LEADERS. However it is the two day meeting that begin on Wednesday not the leaders.

Would you say, because of this, it is a bad sentence?

i don't think begining is modifying Leaders.

I find this sentence absolutely correct. The modifier is correctly placed near the object it is modifying.

What makes you think that "Beginning"which is far placed from leaders is modifying leaders?
