Profile evaluation please

I'm new to these forums and I just want to thank everyone for their help.
Male/white
I am going to graduate this spring from a private school in Ohio called Walsh University with a B.A in Management with a concentration in organizational leadership.

Gmat score is 570
GPA 3.4

I have a decent amount of Extracurriculars. Business club and other service organizations around campus.
Studied abroad in Rome for a semester.

I have 2 summer internships with Halliburton and Bridgestone/Firestone
Halliburton internship was more engineering based. (will this hurt me?)

I can get pretty good recommendations from profs

I am not trying to get into a top tier school.
I am Just looking at my chances for a few schools:

Dream:
Case Western- Weatherhead
OSU- Fisher

More realistic
John Carroll- Boler
Kent State
University of Cincinatti

I think i can do better on my GMat should i try to retake?
Also, i feel i am an excellent interviewer so if i can just get one i think i can do the rest.

Any advice i can get would be very helpful. Thanks in advance

Hi there,


Your goals are realistic and with some work, I think you can get into one of your target schools. Here are a few thoughts to consider:

First, you should retake the GMAT if you think you can do at least 30 points better. There's a big difference between 570 and 600.

Second, it's going to be tough to get in right out of school. If you would be willing to wait a year or two, your chances would significantly increase.

Third, you'll need to discount the expected value of professor recommendations and school clubs. Most MBA applicants will be using workplace recommendations and career oriented accomplishments. These will have a good chance of trumping your accomplishments simply because they're from post-university experiences.

Finally, you shouldn't depend on your interview skills to get you in the door. Most of the interview is about filtering out people who are a bad fit, not getting people into the program.
