DS Yes or NO type Questions

Hi All,

I am little confused with the Yes or No type questions in DS. If for e.g. statement A satisfies that the given condition is true => Yes, and the statement B also satisfies the gievn condition but is false => No. So what should be the answer should it be D.

For e.g.

Is 4+n/6 an integer ?

(1) n is multiple of 6
(2) n divided by 6 remainder is 1

here with (1) we get Yes, with (2) No. is the answer D or A.

IMO, The two answer choices contradict each other

1) n is multiple of 6

=> n/6 is an integra
4(integra) + integer = integer

YES

2) n/6 = R1 => n is not divisible by 6 (if its divisible, remainder has to be 0)

NO

But 1) says n is divisible by 6, and 2 says n is not divisible by 6.

IMO, the correct answer choice is D, but, again, the two answer choices should not contradict each other.

The two choices should ideally not contradict each other but there is a possibility that they may do so. In the event of the above happening, the choice shall be D or Both statements are sufficient for answering the question.

The two statements in a DS question can never contradict each other.
As such, the original question could never be an official GMAT question.
