All,
I just posted the following post as a reply to one of the existing posts and then I saw the message on the main forum page that I could post here to get help from all experts on this forum. So, I am starting a new thread.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, I thank you for this informative forum. I am not sure if my question will be a digression from the goal of this forum, but I will anyway post it.

I am planning to apply to MSc management and Strategy course at LSE.

My Profile:
B.E. Computer Engineering (India) - First Class
M.S. Computer Engineering (USA - One of the reputed Top 10 Engineering Schools; not famous in UK) - GPA 3.5 + Research Thesis
Two internships at very well well known reputed engineering companies during MS.
After MS, working as a Design Engineer Consultant at a internationally very reputed electronics company for 1 year.
GRE: Quant-790/800 Verbal - 620/800
Taking CFA Level-1 in December
Age:25

Reason For Applying to MSc: (A little long - please bear with me)
I want to get a comprehensive understanding of running a corporate organization. Currently, I know how an engineering design organization is run and I have developed good analytical skills. I lack experience in different aspect of management.

I finally want to do an MBA from H/S/W. BUT, I do not want to get an MBA to start my career but I want to work as much as possible in general management and management consulting before getting an MBA, so MBA can help me go to the next level. Also, at my experience level or with the current path, it would be extremely difficult to get into H/S/W.

Thus, I plan to get an MSc in Management and Strategy from a world renowned institute, work in management consulting and general management for a few years, get a specific goal for future and enter H/S/W when I am 31-32.

Guidance Needed for following Questions/Doubts/Difficulties:
Most importantly, can I get admission in LSE MSc Management and Strategy with my profile? The website says that they require minimum 3.6 GPA at undergraduate level. Can taking GMAT help?

While majority of the students will be entering MSc immediately after graduation, can my 4 years post under-grad study+work ex help me get a better job after MSc? I think most of the student will join management consulting as Analysts; can I get an opportunity to start as a Consultant?

What are the other good alternatives? To clarify, I am not interested in any masters level degree in finance or related field because I am not looking to change fields, I am looking to supplement my current education and experience. I am interested in management, strategy, international business, etc.

Any help, suggestions and ideas will be really helpful.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for appreciating our writeup on various Masters courses in business and management related fields.

To answer your queries, let us proceed in a chronological order:

1. A first class degree from India is equivalent of a 2:1 from a UK University. You should be all set if you have a first class degree and hence the 3.6 GPA in undergrad doesn't apply to you as you graduated from India. What does matter is a) What college you went to? (Prestige can overturn the lower percentage disadvantage) b) What was your exact percentage? If you are above 70%, you're all set anyways.

2. Your GRE score is fine for this course. Don't worry too much here. Are you aiming at taking the GMAT as well? Not that it is required, but still. Please do check once with LSE as some courses accept only GMAT scores. Also, their applications open around Sept/Oct. and that's when information on entry requirements is also updated. Hence, be in the loop from before for a better advantage.

3. Your 1 year work experience should favour you, as over 50% of the class does come in without any work experience. Which university you graduated from in the US would make a difference in terms of evaluating how well were you able to reflect that in the workplace (eg: Harvard, they would expect you to be at a major consulting firm. Just an example)

4. Your long terms plans seem great. But be sure to address the double Master's in a positive way. You could approach the MSc admissions committee in two ways. a) You are building up on technical knowledge for a business perspective for your future and b) your MBA in the future. The latter could pose some problems in terms of convincing.

All in all you should be able to get in without much problem. Apply early, so that you don't have immense competition (LSE has rolling admissions). Also there are similar courses at other UK universities which are good as well. We recommend Oxford, Cambridge as well, although entry requirements would increase substantially.

Trust this helps. All the best.

Hi All,
I really appreciate the kind of work going on this forum. Kudos to the founder and all people involved in this endeavor.

I am planning to apply to MSc management and Strategy course at LSE.

My Profile:

B.E Information Systems- GPA 7.71/10- Tier I Engineering college.
I have done various courses and project in Management area.
Internship - 6 months- Deloitte Consulting
Currently Working for Deloitte Consulting for last 6 months.
I have appeared in TOEIC and my score is 1295/1390.

Guidance needed for following questions:

I haven't given GMAT as of now. I am planning to give it in January next year. I think my GPA is a bit less, will that affect my candidature, given that I have a good internship and a brief experience in Consulting arena. What should be the best stage of applying, so that I can be assured that my profile would be considered.I have also heard that this program considers people with very less or no experience.
Any suggestions or ideas would be really helpful.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I am planning to apply to the MSc management and Strategy course at LSE.

Profile:

B.Sc Economics - 2'1 (GPA 3.5) - African University
Currently Working for KPMG in Africa (Financial Advisory) for 3 years.
GMAT 650

Don't want to do an MBA yet as I am still pre-management and am not sure if I can maximise value extraction right now. Also, think a Masters from a top rate foreign university will help my chances when I do want to do my MBA.

Is my profile a good fit?

Thanks.
