Statement One Alone:
p is odd

Since not all odd numbers are prime, p could or could not be a prime number.

Statement one alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statement Two Alone:
2 < p < 17

Since there are prime and composite numbers between 2 and 17, p is not necessarily a prime number.

Statement two alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Statements One and Two Together:

Since there are odd prime and odd composite numbers between 2 and 17, we cannot determine whether p is a prime number.

Answer: E
