-BS in Mechanical Engineering
-2.65 GPA (terrible, I know)
-Taking the GMAT next week (all signs point to low 600s)
-5 yrs of work experience in design engineering with direct management experience (managed production staff of 20 ppl in previous job; serving as department lead now...not a titled manager)
-Essays centered around leadership qualities evident in work experience
-28 yrs old
-U.S. citizen

Applying to Texas - McCombs evening program in Houston and Rice MBA for Professionals. How do I look?

Dear beano,

Your work experience looks good, but I'm concerned about your numbers. While your degree is in engineering, a 2.65 is on the low side for these programs. Additionally, if your GMAT comes in at less than a 650, then you will not be in the best position. I still think you should apply to both, but it will be critical for you to submit a very strong, compelling application with a solid rationale for getting your MBA to try and mitigate your academic profile.
