Some believe that students are less well equiped for college than they used to be. They say that present-day students are inadeqately prepared to express themselves in writing or perform tasks that entail quantitative thinking. But they do not realize that college-bound students are instead trained to think more creatively and use resources, like personal computers, that didn't even exist a generation ago.

Some people think that students are now less well equiped for college than they used to be but I feel the present day students are as well prepared, if not more, as they used to be earlier. With access to latest technology and resources college-bound students are very well equipped for attending college. The reasons for my opinion are stated below.
Firstly, with invent of personal computer and moreover the internet present day students are having access to most of the information which is available. And by using this they can learn and appreciate well whatever is being taught to them in classroom. Internet as a knowledge resource was not available to earlier generations and if we go beyond a generation ago people were not even aware about personal computers. Where as present day students are doing complex simulations on computers.
In addition to availability of information internet has also induced students to think creatively. Most social networking websites like Facebook, Orkut and various other forums encourage students to share their stuff with students in other parts of the world. And surprisingly these applications were not developed by some scients in R&D labs of hi-tech companies but by student themselves while they were studying.
While some people believe that present day students are inadequately prepared to express themselves in writing or perform tasks that entail quantitative thinkng but this does not seem to be true as there is no drop in number of papers published in journals by present day students as compared to ealier students. As far as quantitative thinking is concerned present day students are doing complex simulations and modelling using personal computers which were not available to earlier generations.
In light of the above arguments I strongly oppose the view shared by some people that students are less well equiped for colleges than they used to be.In my opinion present day students are as well prepared, if not more, as they used to be earlier.
