GMAT DS question

by neoneo » Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:53 pm
simple query regarding selection of data:
Are there any specific guidelines in GMAT when to consider integers and when not to ?

For questions like:
Is y^2 >1

with some statement 1) and 2) regarding the value of y.
and it's not explicitly given that y is an integer. Then I'd expect that all scenarios need to be covered : -ve fraction, -1, 0, +fraction, 1, > 1 ( till the first one fails the test) but at the worst case all these will be covered.

Am I correct here, or there are certain cases wherein GMAT is implicit in expecting an integer.

You are correct, if it is not mentioned in the question that y is an integer, we can take y as an integer or fraction, positive or negative.
