What percent of the drama club members enrolled at a certain school are female students?

(1) Of the female students enrolled at the school, 40 percent are members of the drama club.

(2) Of the male students enrolled at the school, 25 percent are members of the drama club.

Is it E ?

Conditions A and B give no info about total number of students in the drama club.

If we know the number of male and female students in the drama club, then we can determine the percent of students in the drama club who are female students.

Statement One Alone:

Of the female students enrolled at the school, 40 percent are members of the drama club.

Since we don't know the number of female students and the number of male students in the drama club, we can't determine the percent of students in the club who are female students.

Statement Two Alone:

Of the male students enrolled at the school, 25 percent are members of the drama club.

Since we don't know the number of male students and we know the number of female students in the drama club, we can't determine the percent of students in the club who are female students.

Statements One and Two Together:

With the two statements, we still don't know the number of male students and the number of female students in the drama club, we can't determine the percent of students in the club who are female students.

Hi All,

We're asked what percent of the drama club members enrolled at a certain school are female students. This question can be solved in a number of different ways; you'll find that a bit of logic (and some basic note-taking to keep track of your deductions) is all that's needed to get to the correct answer.

1) Of the female students enrolled at the school, 40 percent are members of the drama club.

Fact 1 doesn't tell us the exact number of students in the drama club - and it doesn't provide any way to deduce the relationship of the number of female students to total students in the drama club.
Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT

2) Of the male students enrolled at the school, 25 percent are members of the drama club.

Similar to the information in Fact 1, Fact 2 doesn't tell us the exact number of students in the drama club - and it doesn't provide any way to deduce the relationship of the number of female students to total students in the drama club.
Fact 2 is INSUFFICIENT

Combined, we know...
Of the female students enrolled at the school, 40 percent are members of the drama club.
Of the male students enrolled at the school, 25 percent are members of the drama club.

These facts both link back to the TOTAL female students and TOTAL male students in the SCHOOL, but there's no way to account for the 'scale' of those percents. For example, there could be 100 female students in the School (so 40 of them would be in the drama club), but there could also be 1,000 female students in the School (with 400 of them - a much larger number than 40 - in the drama club). Without that type of 'relationship data', there's no way to determine the actual ratio of females to total students in the drama club.
Combined, INSUFFICIENT

Final Answer: E
