Cubic centimeter of a substance..?

by coolgirl26 » Wed Mar 04, 2009 5:56 pm
The mass of 1 cubic meter of a substance is 800 kg under certain conditions. What is the volume in cubic centimeters of 1 gram of this substance under these conditions?
1 kg =1000 g and 1 cubic meter = 1 000 000 cubic cm

answer : 1.25

The answer I got was 0.8 but it is wrong..

What i did was
800k= 800 000 g= 1 cubic meter

so where am i wrong?

I think you may have stopped solving too soon. We know:

800 kg ~ 1 cubic meter
800,000 g ~ 1 cubic meter
800,000 g ~ 1,000,000 cubic cm
1 g ~ 1,000,000/800,000 cubic cm
1 g ~ 10/8 cubic cm = 1.25 cubic cm
