this sentence appears to have been lifted directly from some larger paragraph (which would provide the needed context), but without the appropriate corrections to allow it to stand alone as a single sentence.

there's nothing wrong with appropriating sentences from other sources - it adds a great deal of variety to any source's sample problems, not to mention that the GMAT itself includes many problems that are retouched versions of third-party sentences - but GOOD test writing will rework the sentences so that they make sense by themselves.
Ron has been teaching various standardized tests for 20 years.
