Thinking and Reading loudly

by joshi.komal » Sat Jan 12, 2008 7:09 am
Hi All,

I have a habit of thinking loudly especially when doing verbal(like understanding RC or Cr or SC questions).

I would like to know whether it is allowed in GMAT Test center or not.

If not then any suggestions to improve upon this habit are appreciated.

Thanks
Komal

How loud are you? Can you think aloud with whispers, or is it consistently at regular speaking volume?

Whispers are probably fine, but normal speaking may not be appreciated. I would contact your test center to see what the policy is.

Your test center proctor may misinterpret your whispering to be something a bit more sinister -- it's best you make a conscious effort to try and avoid this as you go along.

Are you aware of the fact that speaking out while reading hampers your reading speed by 60% to 80%! If you continue with your habbit you are only going to have serious time crunch in GMAT.
Forget about what others think: do you think that a bad habit is worth lower GMAT score ?

Thanks Guys

For your prompt responses.

I was not aware of the fact that reading aloud hampers my speed. I would make conscious efforts to improve upon it.

Thanks

I think it will be inappropriate if you disturb other people taking the test around you. I disagree with Eric. You should not even whisper.

If you make any consistent noise at all that interferes with other testers, you will be removed from the test center and your score will be cancelled. You cannot even whisper - there will be people sitting within a few feet of you and they will be able to hear you.
