Studying prior to prep course

I have decided to take a prep course. While researching the different prep courses available a number of companies suggested that I do not study priro to the beginning of the prep course. Do you think that this is a good idea? It seems I should go in with atleast one or two practice test under my belt.

I would appreciate anyones thoughts.

Hi,

Which prep course you have chosen? I have decided to go for Veritas Weekend coaching.

In my city(Melbourne), there is no other choice(no other classes, no regular classroom choice as well).

I have heard Manhattan GMAT is better than Veritas. But as I am not in US, I have decided to go for Veritas.

What is your research on prep courses telling?

Any past students of Manhattan GMAT and Veritas, please share your experiences.

Hi,

Sorry for putting previous query in the wrong thread. It should have been put in 'Do Prep courses really help?' .

As far as training before prep courses, even I was told not to prepare anything before start of classes. May be they have to spend more effort in that case to make you 'unlearn' first and make you learn their strategies.

Awaiting comments from past successful students.

Devang,

I'm a Veritas instructor who teaches lots of the weekend classes. I recommend that you review your basic math (arithmetic and algebra) before the class, so that you'll get maximum benefit from the math portion. Other than that, you probably don't need to do any advance preparation.

I would recommend sitting in on the Manhattan GMAT course to see if the online classroom fits your learning style.

If Veritas also allows you to sit in a course, I would take advantage of that as well. From there, you can determine which course caters to your situation the best.
