Let's start by simplifying the question:dferm wrote:If x-y > 10, is x-y > x+y?
(1) x=8
(2) y = -20
Please Help..
Thanks...
Is x - y > x + y?
If we subtract x from both sides, we get:
Is -y > y?
If we add y to both sides, we get:
Is 0 > y?
Or, in other words:
Is y negative?
Now that we've simplified the question, our life is much easier.
(1) x=8
So, 8 - y > 10
-y > 2
y < -2
Well, if y is less than -2, it's definitely less than 0: sufficient.
(2) y = -20
Well, if y is -20, it's definitely less than 0: sufficient.
Each of (1) and (2) is sufficient alone: choose (D).
