Mgmat-oranges only two

by alivapriyada » Tue Sep 14, 2010 12:28 pm
A number of oranges are to be distributed evenly among a number of baskets. Each basket will contain at least one orange. If there are 20 oranges to be distributed, what is the number of oranges per basket?

(1) If the number of baskets were halved and all other conditions remained the same, there would be twice as many oranges in every remaining basket.

(2) If the number of baskets were doubled, it would no longer be possible to place at least one orange in every basket.

Very good question, Have taken more than 5 minutes to solve it, Please guys i want to know how to solve these questions quickly and correctly,
for now I think the answer is B, (20 baskets ) Double is 40 so more baskets and less apples.
Please share the official answer..

If 20 oranges are to be distributed evenly among b baskets, and the integer 20/b ≥ 1, then 20/b =? More simply, what is b among 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, and 20?

(1) This is already there in all common senses; hence it cannot be taken as some info+. But we can at least decipher from this statement that b must be even. INSUFFICIENT

(2) It has got some protein perhaps, 20/ (2 b) is becoming less than 1, or 10/b is a proper fraction, or b > 10; what else if b is not [spoiler]20. Sufficient
