I just gave the verbal portion of my GMATPrep Test 1 and was wondering if based on this this score + the score that i assume i would get on the Quant (which i will give tomorrow) total to a certain score. Is this the right way of getting to your true score. I know the best way is to just complete the test and let the algorithm do its thing but i was wondering if the algorithm viewed each section as separate or bases the total score on the performance of both sections COMBINED.
Its amazing because i got the same # of Ques's right and wrong on Verbal as i did on the MGMAT CAT Verbal few weeks back. MGMAT gave me a score of 41 on Verbal while GMATPrep gives me a 36 ... i am a bit confused. I know MGMAT CAT's are a bit lax in their scoring - does this gap seem okay to you.
Am i just worrying too much about this....i scored a 620 on MGMAT Prep what should i expect on this GMAT Prep?

Guynoor,
I feel you must give the test in one sitting with only max 10 mins break to get your true score. Because in real exam you will not have the luxury of spreading the exam over two days. and i suggest you write awa's also before taking sections test.

Agreed. I try to give full length tests on weekends. Its just not possible for me to give a full test during a weekday after coming home from work. So during the week i try to finish it in 2 days. Anyways lets see how i do on the Quant today BTW everyone here says that GMATPrep only has 2 tests...on my software it shows i have 4 tests and it even gives you answer explanations when you go to the mentor mode.Notmyking wrote:Guynoor,

Ok so i took the Quant and the total score i got was a 640. I started my prep with a 510. I have the real GMAT scheduled for May 19. Do you i think i should wait until i hit 700 which is my goal? Can i score in the 700's by May 19th. To all those who are not that good in math (like me) i can tell you this test is beatable. If i can go up from 510 to 640 and hopefully 700 then anyone can and i am by no means a math genius.

I don't think you can really consider your score to be a 640 because you took the test under artificial conditions. It's a huge advantage to wait 24 hours before taking the second half of the test. You need to take a test under conditions that mimic the real thing in order to have a valid result. (And then remember that you will be more nervous on the real thing - no way to mimic that - and that can bring your score down.)
Also, be aware that the test is not scoring you based upon percentage correct - it's scoring you based upon the difficulty level of the questions you get right and wrong. It's not like tests you had in school.
So, you can get the same percentage correct and score a 350 or a 650 - what matters is that the higher score = more difficult questions and the lower score = easier questions.

Hey there.. I saw one of your post stating about the Powerscore's Logical Reasoning bible..
I am wondering if you can pass on the PDF to me, as I am starting with my GMAT prep, and verbal CR section is the weakest for me..
I will be thankul if you can send me the same at my personal id- ashishranas at gmail dot com

Hi, guys
Companies generally don't give away their products for free (at least, not entire books!). I don't work for Powerscore, so I don't know absolutely for sure, but I'm guessing that they do not want someone passing around their book in electronic form for free.
If we all take stuff without paying for it, pretty soon, companies aren't going to be able to afford to continue developing new stuff.

Stacey I have a question about MGMAT, can you answer it here or should I go to the mgmat board. I would ask there but it seems to take a while to get a reply.

You can ask here! FYI, if it is about prices or class schedules or where to get books or something like that, I won't know the answer. If it's something like that, you can call the office (800.576.GMAT) or email ([email protected]).

No, I know the prices. My question is since I've gone through all of the books and CATS if I decided to take a course, would I get that much out of a course with you guys since I would have seen almost all of the material?

In my opinion, the instructors add an enormous amount of value. That's why they pay us $100/hour.
We don't read through the books in class - that's all homework. (In fact, the quant books are all assigned *before* the class in which we cover each topic.) Class time is devoted almost exclusively to discussing all aspects of practice problems, the actual content being tested (quant and grammar), the best strategies to tackle different kinds of problems, how to recognize when to use various kinds of strategies, how to make educated guesses, and so on.
You can sit in on the first class of a course for free (you'd sign up for a "Trial Class" but it is the first class of a real course). Try it and see what you think - the only drawback would be if you really like the class and it sells out before you sign up!
