Is pq > 0?

(1) p < 0
(2) q < 0

The OA is the option C.

Why we have to use both statements to get an answer here? Could someone give me some help? Please.

We have to determine whether pq > 0.

Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) p < 0

=> p is negative; however, we do not have any info about q. Insufficient.

(2) q < 0

=> q is negative; however, we do not have any info about p. Insufficient.

(1) and (2)

p and q are negative, thus their product, p*q is positive; or, pq > 0. Sufficient.

The correct answer: C

Hope this helps!
