Boxes A, B and C together contain a total of 8 pencils. Each box contains at least 1 pencil. Box A contains more than 1 pencil. How many pencils does each box contain?
(1) The number of pencils in Box A is not a prime number.
(2) Box B and Box C contain the same number of pencils.

Let us assume that the number of pencils in boxes A, B, and C be x, y, and z respectively.
Then x + y + z = 8

(1) The number of pencils in Box A is not a prime number.
Prime numbers less than 8 are 2, 3, 5, and 7.
There can be a number of possible combinations for x, y, and z are like (4, 2, 2) or (6, 1, 1).
No definite answer; NOT sufficient.

(2) Box B and Box C contain the same number of pencils.
There can be a number of possible combinations for x, y, and z are like (6, 1, 1) or (4, 2, 2).
No definite answer; NOT sufficient.

Combining (1) and (2), we don't get any new info; NOT sufficient.

The correct answer is E.
