Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) George paid the taxi driver a tip equal to 15 percent of the amount the driver charged.

Since we do not know the actual amount of the tip, we cannot get the amount the driver charged. Insufficient.

(2) George paid the taxi driver a tip of $6.00.

We do not percentage value of the tip. Insufficient.

(1) and (2) together

From (1) and (2), we get

=> 15% of the amount the driver charged = 6

=> The amount the driver charged = 6/15% = $40. Sufficient.

The correct answer: C
