Full time Vs. executive MBA

by Xbond » Wed Jul 30, 2008 9:43 am
Hi Lisa,

I am Investment Consultant in big Swiss bank (I worked during 18 months in Switzerland) with 7y professional experience in financial markets (Private banking division). Apparently, I have very good profile for a MBA according to Wharthon and Columbia recruiting and enrollement officer.

I think a MBA is a full time. Now, some friends told me I have to think about executive MBA. I am 32y old and have african origin. I born in France (french citizen)

What do you think as Consultant ? Have to revise my first goal to do a full time ?

kind Regards,

Xbond

Dear Xbond,

With over 8 years of professional experience, you are eligible for most executive MBA programs. Whether to do the traditional full-time program versus an executive MBA is really a matter of your personal preference. Executive programs are structured differently: your peer group is at your level or above, you work while in school, and the content of your courses focuses more on the strategic aspects of business. What I would suggest is for you to think about why you want your MBA and what you want to do post-MBA. If you want to make a career change and like the idea of focusing only on your degree program, then the full-time program is probably a better option for you. If you plan to continue on your current career path and want classroom interactions to be at the higher level, then you should research possible executive MBA programs.

Good luck,
Lisa
