Australian embryologists have found evidence that
suggests that the elephant is descended from an
aquatic animal, and its trunk originally evolving as a
kind of snorkel.

(A) that suggests that the elephant is descended
from an aquatic animal, and its trunk originally
evolving
(B) that has suggested the elephant descended from
an aquatic animal, its trunk originally evolving
(C) suggesting that the elephant had descended
from an aquatic animal with its trunk originally
evolved
(D) to suggest that the elephant had descended
from an aquatic animal and its trunk originally
evolved
(E) to suggest that the elephant is descended from
an aquatic animal and that its trunk originally
evolved

Plz do not give OG answer!

I believe answer is D...
explanation A is not parallel.. comma + and is indipendent clause... but here we mean two things which are suggested... 1) elephant is descended... 2)its trunk....
B) second part is presented as indipendent clause.. making it run on sentence...
c) "with" is used as conjunction for two parallel items in a sentence... its has no clear referent(elephant or aquatic animal)

between d and e...look closely.. d is not parallel.. to suggest that... and(need "that" here)its trunk
further elephant had descended gives feeling as elephant no longer exists now...

So e is correct... :)
