If y is positive, what is the value of x?

(1) x - y = -(x + |y|)
(2) x - y = -3

The OA is the option A.

Why is sufficient the first statement? I couldn't get an answer. I got x=y, but I don't know what is the value of y.

Since y is positive, |y| = y.

Statement 1:
x - y = -x - |y|
x - y = -x - y
x = -x
2x = 0
x = 0.
SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2:
x = y-3
If y=1, then x = 1-3 = -2.
If y=2, then x = 2-3 = -1.
Since x can be different values, INSUFFICIENT.

The correct answer is A.
