If a*b is an even integer, is b a multiple of 2?

If a*b is an even integer, is b a multiple of 2?

(1) a is not a multiple of 2.
(2) b is product of two consecutive integers.

I'm quite confused about the statements, isn't Option D the right answer?

Statement 1 itself is not sufficient.

Case 1: a = 2/3 and b = 3, then a*b = 2/3*3 = 2; thus, b is NOT a multiple of 2. The answer is No.

The question does not say that a and b are integers. They are numbers.

Case 2: a = 3 and b = 2, then a*b = 3*2 = 6 (even); thus, b is a multiple of 2. The answer is Yes.

Insufficient.

The correct answer: B
