Advertising budget

by moonlite » Fri May 01, 2009 7:23 am
A certain company divides its total advertising budget into television, radio, newspaper, and magazine budgets in the ratio of 8:7:3:2 respectively. How many dollars are in the radio budget?

1) the television budget is $18,750 more than the newspaper budget
2) the magazine budget is 7500

How can we determine that a is sufficient?

Thanks.

I wrote it on a piece of paper this way

T-----R-----N-----M
8-----7-----3------2 (so i dont have to keep looking back)

In A. we know the difference between T and N is 18,750

And when you think about a ratio it is actually saying

8x + 7x + 3x + 2x = Total

Hence:
8x - 3x = 18750
x = 3750

Hence Radio Budget = 7x (no need to calculate, just wastes time)

P.S. notice that 2x = 7500, the info given to you in B.
