If a, b, and c are real numbers, is a/b > b/c?

(1) a > c
(2) ac > b^2

[spoiler]OA=E[/spoiler].

Is not sufficient the second statement? Why not? Can anyone give me some help, please?

Target question = $$Is\ \frac{a}{b}>\frac{b}{c}?$$
$$\frac{a}{b}>\frac{b}{c}$$
$$\frac{a}{b}-\frac{b}{c}>0$$
$$\frac{ac-b^2}{bc}>0$$
Statement 1 = $$a>c$$
This does not give sufficient information about $$b$$ so statement 1 is INSUFFICIENT
Statement 2 = $$ac>b^2$$
$$ac-b^2>0$$
No information on 'bc' Statement 2 is INSUFFICIENT.
Combining the two statements together does not give any valuable information on B and cannot answer the target question. answer is Option E because both statement is INSUFFICIENT

Hi Gmat_mission,

We're told that A, B and C are real numbers. We're asked if A/B is greater than B/C. This is a YES/NO question and can be solved by TESTing VALUES.

1) A > C

IF.....
A=2, B=1, C=1 then 2/1 is greater than 1/1 and the answer to the question is YES
A=2, B=-1, C=1 then 2/1 is greater than -1/1 and the answer to the question is NO
Fact 1 is INSUFFICIENT

2) (A)(C) > B^2

IF.....
A=2, B=1, C=1 then 2 is greater than (1)^2 and the answer to the question is YES
A=2, B=-1, C=1 then 2 is greater than (-1)^2 = 1 and the answer to the question is NO
Fact 2 is INSUFFICIENT

Combined, we already have two TESTs that 'fit' both Facts and produce two different answers (one "YES" and one "NO"), so no more work is required.
Combined, INSUFFICIENT

Final Answer: E
