The defense lawyer and witnesses portrayed the accused as a victim of circumstance, his life uprooted by the media pressure to punish someone in the case.

A.) circumstance, his life
B.) circumstance, and his life
C.) circumstance, and his life being
D.) circumstance; his life
E.) circumstance: his life being

I'll opt for A in this case; "his life uprooted by..." is a modifier with no active verb

B: The defense lawyer AND witness portrayed..., AND his life uprooted X, and Y: active Vs passive; Also, "and his life" cannot refer to "Defense Lawyer and witness"

C: Independent clause, AND Dependent clause; use of "being" here not ok

D: The 2nd part after semi-colon ought to stand alone.

E: "being" not needed.

This is my opinion.
