Hi everybody. I'm Karan from India and plan to give my GMAT in another 50-60 days. Eric this is a wonderful forum to meet up fellow Gmat takers and the kind of resources on this site are overwhelming. I love the flash cards and the posts in 'I just beat the GMAT' . Both are really insightful.
I started studying around 20 days ago but its been erratic to say the least. I've given two mock GMAT as well so far :
Gmat Prep : 670(Q48 , V34)
Princeton's Test : 640(Q47, V31)
I'd like to know how can i improve my verbal section. I've realized i am unable to focus on the RC & CR sections and thats my bane. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hello!
I am Ruchi from New Delhi, India.
A software engineer (like many many others) by profession, so far I have gained 3 years of work experience.
I, now, want to move towards a different industry before starting my own business eventually.
My focus will be mainly on the Luxury sector and I'm planning to do my MBA in Luxury Brand Management. So, needless to say, ESSEC is my first choice though if anyone can guide me towards any other schools offering this course, I'd be delighted!
My hobbies are reading, blogging, philately (big time!), traveling and anything related to food and drink

I'm thrilled to have found Beat The GMAT forum, not only because it is going to be of help to me (I can tell!) but also I intend to contribute my two cents to be of help to others.
Looking forward to an exciting time here!

Hi everyone,
My name is Jaimeen and I am a Biotechnology graduate from Griffith University in Australia. I have been working full-time for the past 1.5 years in Australia. I aspire to start my MBA in next fall (2011), and have been working hard for a good GMAT score to offset my lack of work experience ( which would sum upto 2 years by the time the MBA program kicks off).
I took the actual GMAT test yesterday, and scored a miserable 480. It was quite shocking considering I was scoring in the range of 580-600 in my practice tests (GMATPrep software by mba.com and Kaplan Online). It wasn't until last night when I came across this fantastic community of people! So here I am, hoping to gain valuable input, and try and contribute my bit towards helping others.
After the dismal start to my GMAT saga, I really hope I can get my act together and get a formidable score in my next attempt ( I plan to schedule it either on the 25th of Oct or 9th of Nov)

Hi All,
This is Ramannjit from New Delhi, India.
I have a total experience of 14+ years. Last studied math 19 years back. Left studied 16 years back when I completed B.Sc. Medical. Since April of this year, I have been working for home-based QA assignments in Medical Transcription field and that is when I started thinking strongly about going for B-School to go further in professional life. Breakup is as follows:
Industry: Healthcare BPO/Medical Transcription (10 Years) April 2010 - Present: HeartlandDelhi as a QAII Level, Heartland Delhi, Home Based assignments.
December 2008 - April 2010: MedSource, Colombo, Sri Lanka, as a Quality Assurance Consultant.
June 2000 - November 2008 at HeartlandDelhi as a QAII Level (Inhouse)
Industry: Healthcare Diagnostics. (04 years)
December 1995-May 2000 at Cadila Healthcare as Diagnostic Sales Specialist.
I may, I think I will, sometime come up with very basic questions to clarify for me, please bear with me for those !
Decided I need formal education in Business at this juncture of my life (35 now) to relate my practical knowledge to theroies and theoretical+practical knowledge of business school to practice and start a fresh from there.
I believe change is the way of life which helps you feel young at all time and help you go beyond your limits and progress into uncharted territories.
Eric, this site has been a wonderful initiative.

Thanks for that intro Ramannjit, and welcome! Also, thanks for those very kind words about our community!
Just to answer your question--I don't think you need to have a formal education in business in order to do well/keep up in business school. There may be some skills you should brush upon, like a review of some quant topics, but even those skills can be acquired after getting into b-school (most MBA programs offer a 'math boot camp' prior to school starting).
The most important thing right now is for you to understand why you need an MBA now. If you can convince yourself and others as to why, then you're well on your way. Good luck!

Eric, thanks for your response and pointing out the point which will be first to be asked from any B-school.beatthegmat wrote:Thanks for that intro Ramannjit, and welcome! Also, thanks for those very kind words about our community!

From trainee in MT field in Delhi to QA consultant in Colombo, I have garnered many positions in between. As far as medical transcription field is concerned, I am satisfied, have the ability to employ and be employed but that is it - I have hit the ceiling of this room.
Healthcare is a big sector itself, even if I do not think beyond this sector to change my field. Thinking ahead, I would like to continue be associated with Healthcare Sector, rest depends if I began to change path during the course. I have 14 years of experience in Healthcare and prior education in medical field. Even if I pursue MT as a business, I am sure, I will not be among others. I would definitely do something different than people are doing but that of course will again be on my own learning.
When I would be having an MBA edge, I will have the advantage to go for higher positions in global MNCs to enrich my experience further. I want to gain experience from these people by way of being part of them and in turn share what I have learned from my national as well as international experience. I believe and it is true that there is enormous gray matter with exceptional approaches some of them have gathered to teach us back and some are still in search of greater achievements. I want to be among those with my belly full of ideas to discuss and impart what I have, so as to achieve new milestones.
Always ready to change even at the height of achievement, change which can sometime lead to growth and new opportunities and sometimes failure but with of course with new learning. I have the ability, I have the strong inner urge, I need a more concrete direction to go forward from here and I think an MBA can provide me that. Even at this stage of my life where people start thinking about children's career
Only thinking about one-year MBA options.
What is your opnion, would be much appreciated.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Tyler Cormney, and I am the Chief Exec & Co-founder of MBAPrepSchool.com. MBA Prep School is not a traditional admissions consulting firm. We have created a series of how-to video courses and assembled a suite of services and resources to teach aspiring MBAs how to build an outstanding application. We've recently formed an alliance with Beat the GMAT and we are very excited to be joining this on-line community; we plan to be a valued resource for Beat the GMAT members for many years to come.
A little background about me, I live in Los Angeles, California in the same canyon where you will find the world-famous Hollywood sign. I have an MBA from Harvard Business School (HBS) and a Master's in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California. I'm now in my fifth season as an admission consultant, and I've worked with more than a hundred clients, helping them earn acceptance letters to their dream schools.
The internet has changed every industry it touches and admission consulting isn't any different. One-to-one admissions consulting is a valuable service, and I do believe applicants derive tremendous benefits from working with a private coach. The clients who benefit the most are those who need additional help with the "accounting process": identifying which of their qualities and strengths to feature on their application; the "strategic planning process": positioning themselves and differentiating themselves from the competition; and with the "story-telling process": sharing their life experience in a unique, engaging, and memorable way. What an effective admissions consultant does -- in my opinion -- is to help his or her clients achieve greater self-awareness and then to communicate what they've learned in the application medium: application forms, essays, resume, and interviews.
Last year, my long-time friend and co-founder, Chris Aitken, and I started thinking: what if we could use the internet to deliver a series of videos that would teach applicants the "accounting, strategic planning, and storytelling" techniques that top admissions coaches use to help their clients build outstanding applications, and instead of charging a few thousand dollars we'd charge a few hundred dollars? That what-if question was the genesis of MBA Prep School.
MBA Prep School teaches MBA candidates, our students, how to optimize the quality of every element of their MBA application: application forms, essays, resume, reference letters, and admissions interviews. (We leave GMAT prep to the excellent firms that you'll meet here at Beat the GMAT).
I think it's great that you have a knowledge-base like Beat the GMAT to tap into when you embark on your quest for an acceptance letter. My intention, which is shared by our entire team at MBA Prep School, is to support you in that quest as a valued contributor to this community, and I look forward to answering your questions and helping you earn an acceptance letter to your dream school. At MBA Prep School we have a saying: Prepare to be accepted!
