I am currently applying to business schools for rounds 2 and 3. I am applying to only one or two top schools because of high tuition costs and will be applying to state schools for the rest of my apps. I graduated with an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences from a top program in '07 and have worked steadily since then. For the past two years I held a research position in neurobiology at a top university in which my employment was paid for by a research grant from the NIH. As of July 2011 the grant which paid for my research and salary was not renewed and I have been out of work since then.
I have currently been looking for employment, however, in this current economic climate job openings have been few and far between. I have received replies from employers but when I tell them I am only available for less than one year because of my plans for b-school they will not proceed with employment talks. I don't want to flat out lie to them and say that I am available for a few years because if I do need a recommendation I probably will not get one if I quit prematurely.
I am wondering what I can do for the next few months that I can put on my resume to show b-schools that I have at least done something. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
