Please evaluate my profile GMAT 740

by kapilgupt » Wed Oct 16, 2013 10:03 pm
Hi,
BACKGROUND:
I did my undergraduate in Civil & Structural Engineering From India with 75% aggregate marks. After that I did my MS in Civil Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park in 2004. Since graduation, I have been working in Calfornia. So I have close to 10 years of experience. During last 10 years, I have worked on number of world class civil engineering projects, especially worth mentioning is IHNC project which consisted of building a massive flood wall in New Orleans to protect it from another katrina like Hurricane. I have also been working on small to large scale civil projects with cities and municipal agencies including USACE.
In last 10 years, I have mostly done geotechnical consulting along with project and client management. Since last 2 years, I have also been doing active marketing to expand our business operations in California.

Now I would like to do my MBA to get into consulting and switch careers for two reasons:
1) I think I have better aptitude for management.
2) I would like to get better compensation in the long run.

My GMAT score is 740 and my GPA in MS was 3.5. I think I can management good recommendation letters from my supervisors. What are my chances of getting into Booth, Kellogs, Harvard, or HASS or other ivy league programs. I only want to apply to top 10 programs.

Also, I want to know is it worth getting help from admission consultants?

Please let me know.
AJ

Hey there good sir,
Well you seem to have a nice profile. And for sure have a fantastic GMAT and great GPA. the one thing that will make things tough for you will be your age (maybe). since you did your Masters 10 years ago you must be what 31-32??? For HBS that's a bit on the old side. But for example for Booth, it fits more with their profile.

I think you will have a shot at Top 10 schools, but that it will be a good idea to open your mind to Top 20 schools ( which to be totally honest are fantastic) to make sure you get your chances.
