recommendation letters for 2011

by biker317 » Fri Feb 19, 2010 3:04 pm
hello all..
Is it possible to get your rec letters in for 2011? Or is it real early..one of my recommendors is leaving my place of work and I was thnking of getting him to write me a letter (or type) when the work I have done for him is fresh in his memory. What are your thoughts on this? Any pitfalls?

I think you need to wait until the official applications come out from each school. I don't think this happens until the summer. The recommender has to fill out a series of questions about you, so I think you need for that to occur.

I think you should have a conversation with your boss. Tell them what your future plans are and that you would like to keep in touch with them.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

hey even i my senior has already resigned and serving his notice period. But still i took my recommendation letter from him coz i have done some genuinely good work and before he'd forget or would get busy working in the new organisation , i chose to keep his reco with me.
As and when i apply , shall use his reco.

I'd suggest the same for you .

For online recommendations, i can send a mail to B schools saying please update my recommendor's new email id in your records. And then tell my senior to send my reco from his new work id.

This is what i am going to do..

Hope this helps :)

Some B schools have their recommendation format. out there the questions are already posted. but its the submission that they want it online based.

Few schools would require students to just provide an email id of Ur recommender and we wont even get to know what the questions are.

Few B schools require a simple recommendation letter either on the company's letter head or on a blank paper.

Hope this helps :)

Yes,
but that is there if the B schools require an online application.

Many B schools have an option of a hard copy of the Letter of Recommendation or an online submission of ur Reco.

thanks guys for the valuable input, the consensus seems to be that I can get a paper recommendation if needed but if it needs to be filled out online, then i need to wait for the college to release this years questions? is there a ballpark when they come around? again, thanks for ur input!

Hi biker317,

One question for you. Do you know which schools you are going to apply in 2011? If so you can go to their website and most schools have the recommendation letter (sample) in PDF format which you could download. This way even if the schools requires referrers to provide their recommendation in a specified format your are good to go!
