GMAT Retake?

Hey Stacy,

I recently took the GMAT and scored a 730. I had a headache and underperformed. I found the GMAT to be very easy compared with the GMATPrep. However, the 730 matches my high end in practice exams.

I am fairly confident that I can reach a score of 750/760, but most likely not a 770+. But, there's a chance that I might score as low as 700.

The question is do you think a retake is worth my time? and in the eyes of adcoms is a 750/760 much more favorable than a 730?

In general, I would say that a retake would be a waste of time. However, if you are applying next year and have plenty of time, you might as well go for it. Of course, the higher the better. However, if you should be spending time on your essays, interview prep or even boosting extra curricular activities, I would not make the tradeoff. A 730 is a fantastic score for any school.

How will adcoms look at a drop in score such as a 730 to a 700?

In general, they will use your highest score. Some schools will have you self report your highest score and will not even know all of your scres until they view your official report after you are admitted. Even if they did see both scores up front, they are both very good scores. I would not worry about the drop.
