Any tips on reaching 750?

by KK9_GMAT » Mon Jul 12, 2010 2:06 pm
Heylo-

Background -
This is going to be my third GMAT attempt. I scored 570 (V27, Q42) in my first attempt which was in Sep 09. I then took a break and restarted this April and sat for my 2nd attempt in June. I scored 650 (V35, Q44) in my 2nd attempt, so an 80 point increase. Since my target score has always been 750, I decided to it give it one last try. I decided to study for another month and then sit for the GMAT again. Now I am 2 weeks away from my 3rd attempt. I am getting closer to my 750 but not there yet.

Resources Used/Using:
Kaplan GMAT Premier 2009
OG 12th Ed
Quant Review Official
Verbal Review Official
MGMAT Sentence Correction
MGMAT Critical Reasoning
GMAT Number Properties
MGMAT Word Translations
MGMAT Equations, Inequalities, VICs
Wren & Martin Grammar
Powerscore Critical Reasoning Bible

CATs
Following are my scores so far on the CATS:
MGMAT 1 - 640 (V34, Q43)
MGMAT 2 - 580 (V31, Q38)
MGMAT 3 - 600 (V34, Q36)
MGMAT 4- 580 (V37, Q33)
MGMAT 5 - 640 (V36, Q42)

Kaplan 1 - 570 (V26, Q32)

GMAT Focus 1 - Range of 40-48
(can attempt 2 more times)

Concerns:
Timing in Quant:
I have found that I run out of time on Quantitative and I end up guessing many questions. For example, in MGMAT 4 i guessed the last 20! I guessed the last 7 in MGMAT 5 so some improvement there.

Verbal:
I seem to have trouble in Critical Reasoning. I have bought the Powerscore CR Bible and I am currently going through it.

Objectives-
I think in order to get 750 I will need atleast 48 in Quant and 45 in Verbal.
1) Increase my Quant Score by another 10 points in 2 weeks
2) Increase my Verbal Score by another 10 points in 2 weeks

Other Issues:
I work full time and hence spend only about 3 hrs each night on a weekday BUT about 12-14 hrs each Sat-Sunday.

I have exactly 2 weeks to go....Any suggestions on how I can achieve my objectives?

Any help/recommendations would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you may not have time, but a cram-course with a professional company led by a dynamic instructor could do wonders. If you can find one that starts and ends this weekend, you will be surprised at how much it can help.
