Even Integer

How many odd integers are greater than the integer x and less than interger Y?

a) there are 12 even integers greater than x and less than Y.
b) there are 24 intergers greater then X and less than Y

B is right.

We have two cases - X is even, X is odd.

Statement 1
If X is even
=> X+2, X+4...X+24 are the 12 even integers between X and Y.
So, Y can be X+25 or X+26, in either case we will have 12 even integers between X and Y.

So, position of Y is ambiguous consequently the no. of odd integers can be 12 or 13.

Insufficient.

Statement 2
If X is even
=> X+1, X+2....X+24 are the 24 integers between X and Y.
=> X+1, X+3, X+5...X+23 are the odd integers between X and Y. So no. of odd integers is 12.

If X is odd
=> X+1, X+2....X+24 are the 24 integers between X and Y.
=> X+2, X+4...X+24 are the odd integers between X and Y. So no. of odd integers is 12.

Sufficient.

Ans is B.
