I would plug in the answer choices.

Start off with D, which shows us that x should not be a positive number :
x (2x+1) = 0
if x is positive, we will never get it equal to zero.

So now try picking B (the better of the 2 negative choices), which gives us :
-(1/2) ( 2 (-1/2) +1) = 0
& (-1/2 + 1/2) x (.....) = 0

So the correct answer would be B
