A particular library has 75 books in a special collection, all of which were in the library at the beginning of the month. These book are occasionally loaned out through an inter-library program. If, by the end of the month, 65 percent of books that were loaned out are returned and there are 68 books in the special collection at that time, how many books of the special collection were loaned out during that month?

Assume 'x' is the number of books that were loaned.
75-x is the number of books that are remaining after books were loaned.
The number of books that were returned are 0.65*x.

Thus we have, 75 - x + 0.65*x = 68
75 - 0.35x = 68
7 = 0.35x
x = 20 is the answer.
75 books in special collection
let book loaned out be x so 65% of x returned =.65 x
and books are 68
so .35 x book still out and i.e=7
so x=20
so 20 book were loaned out
Ideation without execution is delusion

Thank You guys. But I have a small doubt. Under what basis you guys are taking the X as the no of books those have only taken from the special collection and when 65 percent books are returned how can you be sure that its only for the special collection. I am little confused with the question whether its only addressing the special collection library or the whole of it.

Please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
