PR-4: Q - 34

by camitava » Mon Jun 23, 2008 10:36 pm
Regular grooming and defleaing is necessary for short-haired cats the same as long-haired cats, because careful hygiene has more to do with the condition of a cat's skin than with the length of its hair.

1. The same as
2. As well as
3. As for
4. The same as if they were
5. As it is for

- Guys which option u think is the correct one and why?
Correct me If I am wrong

I think is E.E is parallel.
"X(Regular grooming and defleaing) is necessary for A(short-haired cats) as it(X) is for B(long-haired cats)"

I agree with u, Sulabh! E should be the option to chose unless one argues that verb and pronoun for "Regular grooming and defleaing" should be plural in sense.
But you know onething - the OA is B. Guys, can u pls tell me now why not E but B? I presonally against B as it is,I think, goes beyond the rule mentioned in OG.

It can't be plural because sentence uses 'is'.What is the source of this question?

"X(Regular grooming and defleaing) is as necessary for A(short-haired cats) as it(X) is for B(long-haired cats)"

Dont you feel that the as an bold here(which I have added to the original option) is required to maintain paralleism, the original option E does not look parallel to me.

@reachac

I agree with you but that still doesn't make B the right answer.Of all the options only E seems right to me.

@Sulabh
Wats keepiing you off B? To me it looks a good and precise option :)

@Camitava I just wana show the lack of parallelism in option E, look at the bold 'as' (which i inserted in the original option). withoput this one it looks to me that E isnt parallel

@reachac

Regular grooming and defleaing is necessary for short-haired cats the same as well as (for) long-haired cats, because careful hygiene has more to do with the condition of a cat's skin than with the length of its hair.

Dont you think B needs 'for' to be parallel.

Reachac, I got ur explanation now! On the same time, I also agree with Sulabh's explanation. I also think that a "for" is required after "as well as".
