Hello,

I just took the GMAT on Friday. It was my first time and I was very nervous during the Quantitative section and performed a lot worse than I had been on my practice tests. My overall score was a 650, but the break down was:

Q 36 46th percentile
V 44 97th percentile

I realize this is a huge difference and was wondering if you think a top 25 Business School will look on this poorly. I am looking to get into Georgetown University's Part Time program. I know I can improve my Q score if I retake it, but not sure I can hit the Verbal percentile I did above.

Thank you!

Here is some background info on me, incase you need it:

-23, Female
-Will be 24 with 18 months full time work experience in Finance when I start
-3.53 Undergrad GPA, International Business degree from top 25 Business School
-Employer will pay for MBA in full, as long as grades are Bs or above

Dear Mavigirl23,

I'm not concerned by the difference between your verbal and quant scores. I am concerned by the quant score though. It is on the low side for Georgetown and will raise concern with the admissions committee. If you did well (A's) in your quant coursework in college, then that will help to mitigate the GMAT to some degree. If you have only taken the GMAT once, then it might be worth taking it again to try and increase your quant score. I think the risk of losing a few points on the verbal section is worth the gain of a few points on the quant section. In the event you do not increase your total score and apply with the 650, I think you still have a chance with a strong overall application and high marks in quant coursework on your transcript.

Good luck,
Lisa

Thanks Lisa!

I have a majority of A's in all my Math and Finance Courses in college, so hopefully this will help. I spoke to someone who also went to the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business undergrad, got a 650 on the GMAT, and works for the same company as me (we are part of Lockheed Martin's Finance Leadership Development Program). He currently attends Georgetown, which gives me some faith.

I think I will apply super early, and then if I get a rejection, Ill take the GMAT again - hopefully in time to apply again for next year.

Thanks again! :D

Im confused because those percentiles scores are WAY off. A 44Q is definitely not 97% (I got a 50Q and its 94%) and a 36V is 78%, not 46%........
