I took the GMAT and scored a 560 - not upset because I did my best given the prep work I did on my own and I'm glad I have a much better sense of where I need to really focus now. I am a little surprised at the discrepancy when comparing the score to my practice test scores. I did self-study for 3 months using the MGMAT books, the 12th OG guide and the OG quantitative review. I used MGMAT's CAT tests and my scores were hovering around 650 +/- 20 points. I also used the GMATPrep tests and both scores were a 640. I had been aiming for around 650, so I plan to retake again as I believe I am capable of achieving that score.
My verbal has not been the issue and this score reflected it - got a 40, which is around what I've been ranging on each practice test. It's the quantitative section that I need help with - scored a 28. I don't attribute my performance to nerves or inability to concentrate - I believe I need to gain a better grasp of the math fundamentals and thus, improve pacing. I was guessing on a couple of questions in order to keep pace.
t think for this second go-around, I'd like to either take a class or hire a tutor so I can have someone help reinforce the math concepts and provide further explanations when I need them. I was wondering if anyone would be able to recommend a short class that has heavy emphasis on quant (perhaps only a month long)? I would prefer in person, but online will suffice as well, especially if there is a big price difference.
