Building & Loan Association

by komal » Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:04 am
The original building and loan associations were organized as limited life funds, whose members made monthly payments on their share subscriptions, then taking turns drawing on the funds for home mortgages.

(A) subscriptions, then taking turns drawing

(B) subscriptions, and then taking turns drawing

(C) subscriptions and then took turns drawing

(0) subscriptions and then took turns, they drew

(E) subscriptions and then drew, taking turns

"made payments" and "took turns" should be parallel.
That is only in C

non underline part contains made (past) and underline changes that tense ...not reqd...
hence A,B,E out

(C) subscriptions and then took turns drawing
correct

(0) subscriptions and then took turns, they drew
they has amiguity in refernce..+ changes meaning

(E) subscriptions and then drew, taking turns

made payments and took turns... parallelism. Hence between

(C) subscriptions and then took turns drawing

(0) subscriptions and then took turns, they drew

D starts new clause " they drew"... which is wrong here...

Only C uses correct form took turns drawing on the firm.
